For a little over a year, the kids have been attending iMontessori and it's been great! Liam has loved everything, except naptime. He has done exceptionally well with the montessori curriculum, learning to read, developing his interests in math, science and nature. Another important part has been learning life and social skills which have given him confidence and taught him to be caring toward others.
Emma has transitioned into the pre-primary room and has loved both of her teachers. It's been incredible to see her learn so fast. I love how she talks about her teachers all the time, sings new songs in the car on the way home and proudly shows me her artwork done that day. Look at my bunny with googly eyes mommy!
The school board members brainstormed and organized a workday to give the playground a 'spring cleaning.' It only took a few minutes on Pinterest to come up with more than enough ideas for the space!
Xylophone, chalkboard, teepee, sand table....we wanted to create an outdoor learning area.
It was a beautiful Saturday and we have an amazing turn out. With so many people to help, we accomplished a lot. The tires were painted, sun sails hung, music wall created, walkways and teepee made. We made a tic tac toe board and the chalkboard and sand table installed. Hay bales and a barrel were used to make another climbing area. So much color and many options for play now!
I am eager to see the space later this spring when plants start to grow and help make the space 'green!'
The students have started seeds inside and will plant them later this month. There are two blueberry bushes and some flowers growing now. I'll try to get a photo of the teepee once the beans and morning glory vines climb on it. The kids already enjoy the teepee. While we were still working on it, Emma went in and pretended to take a nap on one of the bales of hay.
Liam said he likes the hay climbing area the best and Emma says the teepee. She also says "my playground" which is typical two-year old talk. She really helped out a lot and even watered the plants at the front of the school. It was great to see everyone's work come together that day and the teachers and students really seem to be having fun in the new space.
Speaking of school, we found out recently that Liam was accepted in the school district lottery for school of choice to attend the district montessori elementary school. I am glad that he will be able to continue with the montessori curriculum. I'll have to write about montessori more later on....
It's springtime and the weather is warming up. So get outside and play!
