I am so happy that I overheard a conversation at work about the First Tee golf program for kids. I never thought Liam would be enrolled in a golf class at 5 years old but I wish I could have recorded his reaction when I told him about it. His face lit up with excitement and he danced around the room!
So, for ten weeks this spring we drove up to Charlotte for golf flasses on Tuesdays. Liam had fun playing different golf games, including frisbee golf and angry birds golf, with wonderful coaches and volunteers.
I was inpressed that there were so many adults involved in the program and they usually divided the group up with one adult per two kids. The program taught golf basics as well as introducing character building traits such as honesty, responsibility and good sportsmanship.
Liam's favorite activity was usually the driving range. He received a book about golf and met some professional golf players at a special event for the Reading above Par program.
I have a feeling we might be making the drive back up to First Tee again in the future! Even Emma got excited about golf days and told me she wanted to play golf when she's five.
So, our spring sports programs are done for now. Liam asked me what he was going to do now and I assured him that we'd find plenty of fun stuff to do.... it's summer time!
