Lightening bugs and morning glories

I went outside last night to check on the garden and do random outside stuff after the kids went to bed. After noticing some lightening bug flashes, I thought it'd be fun to catch some and take them in to show Liam. I accomplished the first part of the plan but then I couldn't get him to wake up. I took a few photos to show him in the morning. So, catching lightening bugs is still on our list of summer fun things to do, maybe this weekend little man can stay up and catch some with me!

Our study of fascinating things in nature continued the next morning. I showed Liam the bug photos and he wanted to check the jar outside to make sure they all flew away, which they had.
He was then curious about the morning glory flower that was blooming out on the picnic table. Later in the afternoon, he noticed that the flower had closed again. Now he checks for them so I'll be planting more morning glory seeds. I learned this spring that morning glory seeds need to soak for 12-24 hours prior to being planted- good to know! So far, we've seen a purple and white flower on this vine and the seeds I am planting next are blue.

*** Last night Liam wasn't very tired at bedtime. Josh and I were outside finishing up some deck cleaning after we put them to bed. Supposedly we were being too loud for him to sleep.
So, Liam and I ran around in the backyard and one firefly flew right into the jar we had with us. It was fun and I am sure we'll be doing it again soon :-)  When was the last time you enjoyed watching the fireflies?
